From Substitute to Independent Being

In the Book of Genesis, God first created the birds, fish, and animals, and only then the human being. Thus, the creation myth has established a clear hierarchy among living beings: Animals are subject to humans since they constitute a more primitive form of life. But modern art is trying to change the perspective: Artists are granting animals their own space, from being used as a substitute for human characteristics to being an individual; the traditional role reversal between humans and animals is challenged.
