Loved, Tamed, Eaten: Pets and Livestock

The development of human civilization and the keeping of animals are closely linked. Animals are food and are eaten. They supply us with resources for clothing and furniture, serve as a means of transportation, help us in hunting, and in the event of war and catastrophe. In their works, the artists uncover these forms of appropriation, utilization, and systematic exploitation. While the dogs and cats we keep in the domestic environment are often coddled and treated like human beings, we are increasingly reducing farm animals to mere consumer goods.
